The third episode of the Zachor Foundation’s webinar series on the dangers of Holocaust denial and distortion took place on 28 March at 17.00, where HÉTFA researchers presented the results of international research conducted in the framework of the DECONSTRUCT project. The research used comprehensive literature review, teacher interviews and a survey with secondary school students to explore the challenges of Holocaust education and the situation of Holocaust distortion in the four participating partner countries – Greece, Hungary, Italy and Portugal.
Funded by the European Union and co-funded by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), in the DECONSTRUCT project, we work with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), the University of Florence (UNIFI) and the University of Lisbon (FLUL) to combat racism and discrimination, with a particular focus on antisemitism and Holocaust distortion. HÉTFA is a partner in the project coordinated by Zachor Foundation to raise awareness of the dangers of antisemitism, distortion of history and the Holocaust among educators, students and decision-makers through research, online educational materials and innovative awareness campaign, while also developing media literacy.
The webinar featured a presentation of the Zachor Foundation’s educational material for Holocaust education, along with discussions on its future use and impact assessment. In addition, participants have been introduced to the international #ProtectTheFacts campaign, which encourages social media users to gain a deeper understanding of Holocaust distortion through awareness-raising content and to take an active role in encountering it.
