The Co-Creation Lab took place as part of the PRODUCTION³ Project in Budapest from the 1st to the 4th of June, hosted by the Valley of Arts festival that coordinates the 2-year project co-financed by the Creative Europe Programme.

The event brought together participants from the PRODUCTION³ consortium:  the Hungarian Valley of Arts, the Serbian ArtLink Festival, and the Portuguese Artemrede Association, alongside the selected artistic collectives from these countries. HÉTFA as the research partner of the consortium facilitated the Co-Creation Lab that hosted discussions on new models of collaboration between event hosts and artistic collectives.

The overall goal of the PRODUCTION³ project is to adapt to changing audience behaviour and expectations by reinterpreting the interactions between actors in the creative value chain. The aim is to foster innovation in audience development by testing new cooperation models between event hosts, artistic teams and the audience, experimenting with audience-centric productions in various contexts, and improving knowledge transfer between countries to better engage audiences.

Colleagues from HÉTFA played a crucial role at the Co-Creation Lab by presenting research findings produced within the project, including surveys with festival partners’ audiences and expert interviews. They facilitated workshops on artistic programming to gain insights from hosts and creators, and to generate innovative proposals in the host-creator relationship. The discussions focused on three key challenges: matching artistic programming with specific contexts, reaching non-audiences and non-engaged or missing generations, and implementing collaborative decision-making processes between hosts and creators, involving diverse voices. The partnership will publish a report on the findings at the end of the project in 2025.

If you are interested in knowing more, follow the project on Facebook or be part of the audience this summer at the Valley of Arts festival, where the Hungarian production by Láthatáron csoport will be presented on the 25th of July. Do not miss this opportunity to witness some innovative audience engagement in action!
