FINAL CONFERENCE OF THE V4+WB RMA NETWORK PLUS PROJECT

Empowering Research Managers in the 4 Visegrad countries and the West Balkan region

23-24 January 2025

Background

The V4+WB RMA Network Plus project aims to further reinforce the network of Research Support Professionals, or in short, Research Managers and Administrators (RMAs) in the V4+WB region. Through intensified knowledge exchange and capacity-building activities it will contribute to the increased competitiveness of the Visegrad Four and Western Balkan countries in Research and Innovation.

The closing event of the project will take place in Budapest, Hungary on 23-24 January, 2025, targeting RMAs from the V4+WB region and beyond. The event is hosted by the HÉTFA Research Institute, the coordinator of the project.

The main focus and programme of the event is to present how the situation and status of research management has changed during the time of the project in the 4 Visegrad and the 3 Western Balkan countries, what are the improvements, opportunities and the achievements in the field.

Some policy makers from the European Commission, ministries and funding organizations and institution leaders will also be present at the conference, who will give an overview of the present state and further initiatives of research and innovation and research management from their perspective in the form of presentations and a roundtable discussion.

On the second day of the conference there will be a workshop organized by NOVA University of Lisbon with the title ’Advancing Research Management Training in the V4 and Balkan Regions: Needs, Insights, and Future Collaborations’ as part of the RM Roadmap project.

The conference will support the capacity building and networking of RMAs working with EU-funded R&I projects.

Attendance is free of charge, but subject to the written approval of the organizers due to attendee number restrictions. The grants are reserved for applicants*, such as with active contributions to the conference (e.g. delivering a presentation or leading a workshop). Successful applicants shall be listed in the official event/conference programme. The main subject of the oral presentation/speech/workshop needs to be closely related to the topic and objectives of the V4+WB RM Network Plus conference agenda and acknowledge the grants provided by the International Visegrad Fund.

Target group

*Research Managers and Administrators (RMAs) including funding and legal advisors, finance managers, research support professionals, innovation managers, technology transfer professionals, professionals working on the interface of science (such as National Contact Points -NCPs-) or at other Research Performing Organisations (RPOs), universities, NGOs; based in V4 and WB countries.

GO2 Sustainable Urban Planning Organization is pleased to announce the Call for Participation for the 3^rd Training School, scheduled to take place on September 25th – 26th, 2024 in Tirana, Albania. The topic of the training school is the following: OPEN SCIENCE · OPEN DATA
Maximising the impact of research results. Exploitation and valorization of research results. The 2-day event is part of the V4+WB RMA Network Plus project led by HETFA Research Institute and supported by the International Visegrad Fund.

About the event:

Research management and administration (RMA) is becoming recognized as a profession around the world. This emerging profession provides a balance between promoting/facilitating the needs of institutions to meet their organizational objectives and the ability of academics to dedicate more time to science and research results. Well-trained research managers bring added value and significantly contribute to the organization’s overall success at universities, institutions, agencies and NGOs. The V4+WB RMA NETWORK initiative explores the broad scope of the multi-faceted profession of research management. The 3^rd Training School in Tirana under the auspices of GO2ALBANIA would focus on “Maximizing the impact of research results, exploitation and valorization of research results, open science and open access”. Participants can further develop their understanding on:

Open science: concept and policy
Open Science: practices and enablers
Open Science and Open Access: main differences and commonalities
Data sharing benefits and challenges
Data sharing solutions and networks
Examples of data sharing (success and failure)
Data sharing challenges (ethical, legal, technical)
The role of Open Science in research valorization

This V4+WB RMA event also would provide plenty of opportunities for team building and networking. Participants will have the opportunity to network with peers and establish long-term collaborations within the region.

Note: Attendance is free of charge, but subject to selection procedure. GO2Albania will support up to 15 participants from partner countries Visegrad 4 (Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia, Poland) and WB (Albania, Bosnia & Hercegovina, Serbia), by covering the costs of travel and accommodation. All applicants who exceed the selection list are welcome to participate by covering their own travel and accommodation costs. All participants are responsible to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements.

Professional Background: Preference will be given to RMAs leading and coordinating research support offices, researchers,

Experience: Experienced candidates with significant involvement in research support activities, conducting research, pre and post-award project engagement, communication and dissemination, impact evaluation will be prioritized.

Geographical Representation: Visegrad Group (V4) countries and Western Balkans (WB) countries

Diversity: Preference will be given to applicants from diverse backgrounds, including different academic disciplines, types of institutions, and geographical locations within the eligible regions

Training School in Banja Luka on organizing and leading research support services

The University of Banja Luka (UNIBL) is pleased to announce the Call for Participation for the second Training School, scheduled to take place on May 15th and 16th, 2024, in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The two-day event is part of the V4+WB RMA Network Plus project led by HETFA Research Institute and supported by the International Visegrad Fund.

About the event: The Training School aims to equip RMAs from the V4+WB region with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively lead and organize research support services. Led by experienced trainers, the sessions will cover topics such as strategic planning, conflict resolution, improving working conditions, and enhancing the visibility of research support professions. Participants will have the opportunity to network with peers and establish long-term collaborations within the region.

Note: Attendance is free of charge, but subject to selection procedure. University of Banja Luka will support up to 14 participants from V4 and WB countries by covering the costs of travel and accommodation.

Target group: Research Managers and Administrators (RMAs) including funding and legal advisors, finance managers, research support professionals, innovation managers, technology transfer professionals, professionals working on the interface of science (such as NCPs) based in V4+WB countries.

Selection criteria:
