The fourth project meeting of the ST(R)E(A)M IT Horizon Europe project coordinated by HÉTFA took place in Palermo on November 25-26, 2025. The project aims to reduce persistent gender inequalities in STE(A)M education, research, and innovation. The partner meeting provided an opportunity for participants to review the results achieved so far by the project, and to discuss further steps to be taken to achieve the project’s objectives.

The participating partners focused their efforts on providing practical guidance for the development of STEM education, based on the theoretical objectives of gender equality.

As part of the project’s 3rd Work Package, the partners are developing practical teaching toolkits for teachers, mentors, and other educators active in the STE(A)M field. The toolkits will describe teaching methods that can be easily used by organizations in their work with students. You can read an article about the latest developments related to the practical toolkits at this link.

The objective of Work Package 5 is to develop a Policy Roadmap that will support future efforts to promote gender equality in STE(A)M fields in Europe. The project meeting provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the details of the Policy Roadmap. We are organizing Policy Webinars over the lifetime of the project to facilitate the exchange of ideas between stakeholders and summarize their recommendations. Previous webinars are available on the project’s YouTube channel, and details of upcoming webinars will be announced on the ST(R)E(A)M IT website and social media pages (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram).

The Palermo meeting marked an important milestone in the STREAM IT project, as it helped shape directions for working together in the consortium, focusing next steps for inclusive, gender-sensitive STE(A)M education and policy solutions.

The third webinar of the STREAM IT Inspiration Hub will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, between 16:00 and 17:30 on Zoom.

Our invited speaker is Mónika Réti, a high school biology and chemistry teacher who has participated in the implementation of more than 30 international STEM projects since 2008 as an expert, external and internal evaluator, policy advisor, and researcher and analyst. She has created and implemented numerous programs in her field. She currently teaches in Vác, both in primary and secondary schools.

This time, the webinar will focus on teachers. As key players in the learning process, teachers convey values and attitudes that determine students’ attitudes and motivation. However, hidden curricula often work against the desired effect. How can inclusive STEAM learning be supported through conscious planning? In this webinar, we will present some international research data on these issues, as well as numerous good practices and proven ideas, especially from the activities of the Women in Science Association.

On the 7th of March 2025, HÉTFA hosted an Impact Assessment Workshop as part of the STREAM IT project. The Horizon Europe project STREAM IT (Streaming Girls and Women into STEM Education, Innovation and Research), coordinated by HÉTFA, aims to initiate change about the persisting gender inequalities in STEM education, research, and innovation.

Partners of STREAM IT work on the development of innovative gender – and diversity – inclusive toolkits, that support skill-development and learning opportunities for all genders, with particular attention on girls and young women. Pilot activities will be carried out as a basis of the toolkits developed by the consortium. HÉTFA is responsible for the impact assessment regarding the following pilot activities:

Talent Nurturing Programme for 14-18 years old girls: Partners develop an after-school programme (for 14-18 ages) to attract girls into STEM fields and support those who are interested in STEM but not yet committed to going further in this direction. The toolkit will be developed based on this programme to share the experiences beyond the project.

Hands-on activities of science centres and museums: Partners develop hands-on activities in which each involved partner include specific methodology to engage and enable the self-reflection of girls. The toolkits will be designed to enhance the STEM-promoting events of science centres and museums with inclusive methodologies, activities and STEAM approaches that foster creativity and curiosity.

Mentoring Programme & Science Communication Competition: A Mentoring Program will be organised for STEM university and PhD students with the aim of supporting the first steps of their career, to become visible as talents. During the Programme, it is also the aim to address bottleneck moments in young STEM professionals/researchers’ careers, support science communication and nurture a community of young talents through developing and presenting project ideas. The toolkits will be designed based on a 2 year-long piloting period.

During the Impact Assessment Workshop, colleagues of Sunrise Tech Park, NATE (Association of Hungarian Women in Science) and ADDSEN were present to discuss the details of the planned programmes to support the process of designing the methods of impact assessment.

The aim of the STREAM IT Horizon Europe project coordinated by HÉTFA is to reduce persistent gender inequalities in education, research, and innovation within the science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) fields through its activities. As part of the project, the partner organizations will launch online networking groups called National Inspiration Hubs in 13 partner countries. The Hungarian Inspiration Hub, organised by HÉTFA and the Association of Hungarian Women in Science, aims to bring together educators and community stakeholders who are committed to supporting gender equality in the STEAM sector.

The STREAM IT National Inspiration Hubs are intended to involve teachers and communities teaching STEAM subjects or running STEAM-related programmes, with the aim of capacity building. We will organize activities and programs for Hub members that provide opportunities to share and exchange expertise, experiences, and lessons learned, as well as to showcase potentially transferable good practices. The activities organized for the community will primarily focus on promoting STEAM methodologies and addressing gender issues within the field of education.

As part of the Inspiration Hub, we will organize webinars aimed at promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange among STEAM teachers and communities. The online community will operate on the platform of Basecamp.

In order to organize webinars that effectively support Hungarian teachers in learning about STEAM methods and in addressing gender equality issues, we’ve created a survey. If you are an active teacher in the STEAM field in Hungary, we kindly ask you to take a few minutes to complete our survey. During the survey, you will also have the opportunity to express your intention to join the Inspiration Hub.

The Hungarian survey is available here.
