After two years of online events, the annual conference of EARMA (European Association of Research Managers and Administrators) was held in Oslo, Norway, between 4-6 May 2022. The event attracted more than 1.150 participants, mainly research managers, consultants and experts from all across the world. The event’s programme covered multiple aspects relevant to RMA professionals, including the importance between policy and strategy, organising support services and teams, international aspects, impact, open science, professional development and recognition.
On 5 May, Stijn Delauré (Policy Officer, European Commission, DG R&I), Nik Claesen (EARMA Managing Director) and Evelina Bränvall (EARMA Chair) presented the Research Management Initiative of the European Commission and the RM ROADMAP project aiming to create a roadmap for the future of research management in Europe and a community to support its delivery. HETFA Research Institute will be involved in the Horizon Europe project’s consortium focusing on the creation of a bottom-up consensus on the future of RMA in a roadmap. Furthermore, the project will inform the community about existing training, networking, funding and mobility opportunities.
The foRMATion project – coordinated by HETFA – was also presented in a PechaKucha storytelling format on the same day in a session devoted to Professional Development and Recognition. The presentation was held by Virág Zsár, Senior Grant Advisor of HETFA Research Institute and Cristina Oliveira from NOVA University of Lisbon. Lessons learnt and possible impacts of the module were highlighted. The session generated an important discussion on the sustainability and the possible adaption of the module by other institutions.
