The joint publication of Boldizsár Megyesi (research fellow of HÉTFA) and Károly Mike (visiting research fellow of HÉTFA), Communities after markets, The long road of winemakers to self-governance in post-communist Hungary, is published in the regional academic journal, Geoforum.

This study examines how the market institutions of post-socialist countries affect self-organization. Our fellows argue that the lack of institutions supporting market economy in the post-socialist countries sets back the self-organization. Furthermore, it can be also demonstrated that the market economy often results in the disintegration of local producer’s community.

Nevertheless, positive examples can be also mentioned. Through two case studies, the development of Hungarian oenologist’s local community is presented between 1990 and 2014.
